A steady producer for the defending national champions, Williams racked up 99 tackles (18 for a loss) and 5.5 sacks over the past two seasons while batting down six throws at the line of scrimmage.
Wasn't on my radar for the 1st round but I don't hate it. Something I really like about Holmes is if he wants the guy he is going to take him no matter what the pundits say.
Hearing the talk already, you can get DT/NTs in later rounds, you don't use a 1st round pick on one. Does that sound familiar to anyone. Shoot, this isn't as radical as a RB and ILB in the 1st round, plenty of IDLs like this are 1st round picks.
As far as fit it's what everybody has said, they need someone while McNeil recovers and then by next year he is the starter between Hutchinson and McNeil. Always a great decision to go to the lines and if this is the guy they wanted for the DL, it's the guy I want.
He is a very steady player. A high character, quality player. He does not get tired in the fourth quarter. That caught my eye. Trenches is where a game is won. A very good run stopper
It seemed to take a bit of time to get the pick in. Was that due to prior years where fast delivery may have gotten Holmes chewed out by the league. Or was more going on, such as searching for a buyer, or finalizing the team's internal debating? Or am I doing the whole mountain-molehill thing?
Seems like someone we could have grabbed in the 2nd round. Not disputing he’ll be a viable rotational piece, but definitely feels like a reach based on everything I’m reading about the player. Of course, I’m not the GM, so I know nothing…
McNeill emerged in his third year after he completely changed his diet and body fat percentage. There was no guarantee he would become elite. But that's a huge reason Holmes drafts consider more than just raw skill.
Trust and hope.
So for whatever reason I dreamed last night that Holmes did not take an Edge at all in this draft 😱

Ngata,Wilfork, and Poe for example

I would guess he was weighing his trade back options as well...
Definitely someone who is going to get a lot of playing time. I’ll never complain about building the trenches.
Ho hum. Seems Holmes was looking at depth chart on this pick.
Kind of a surprise, but I’ve learned to stop second guessing Holmes a long time ago.
Good pick. Reminds me of Alim, can never have too many dl. Brad will get edge

I’m cool with it. Is just me or is he just a younger Alim McNeill? They can always get
their Edge rusher in the second round.
Looks like quite a few in this draft class.
They got Alim in the third round. How often are teams finding really good edge rushers in the second round?

More often than you think
Maxx Crosby was a 4th rounder
Trey Hendrickson was a 3d rounder
Nick Bonito was a second rounder
Danielle Hunter was a 3rd rounder
A lot of great rushers taken on day 2.
Really can’t believe they didn’t pick Jihaad Campbell
This is very whelming.
This is my thought exactly. I don't hate it, I actually like it, it just doesn't move the needle much for me.
Surprised with Ezeiruaku,Scorton,Green all avaible........
I can support this. Aren’t games won and lost in the trenches?
