Allen Park — The Detroit Lions stood pat with the No. 28 pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft and selected Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams.
Built like a nose tackle at 6-foot-3, 334 pounds, Williams played more of a 3-technique role for the Buckeyes. A steady producer for the defending national champions, Williams racked up 99 tackles (18 for a loss) and 5.5 sacks over the past two seasons while batting down six throws at the line of scrimmage.
Williams joins a deep defensive tackle rotation in Detroit, but a group needing both long-term solutions and a bridge while Alim McNeill recovers from the torn ACL he suffered last December.
Detroit’s long-term need at the position centers around Levi Onwuzurike, DJ Reader and Roy Lopez all playing on contracts that expire at the end of next season.
Kind of a surprise, but I’ve learned to stop second guessing Holmes a long time ago.
I’m cool with it. Is just me or is he just a younger Alim McNeill? They can always get
their Edge rusher in the second round.
