Is there a different vibe when reporters get to attend a Brad Holmes conference? In terms of the fact that those conferences are less often than conferences with the coaching staff, where there might be more familiarity there.

Roster restraints and cap allocation means my BPA doesn’t coincide with Holmes BPA. We are going to see Justin’s top 50 players for Lions where QB, RB and TE are missing. BPA is not clear cut. BPA is a cluster of two or three players. If a QB is available in the first, we won’t draft him.

I would not be surprised if some teams see a need for BPA at 28 that won’t be there early in round 2.

Regarding BPA fitting into a loaded room, I'm guessing that in addition to evaluating the players, Holmes makes sure to understand other teams' pressing needs. If BPA would fit a team a handful of slots back and he still likes his board in that possible slot, he'll probably make a phone call. But if he can't make a deal, he'll take PA and work it out.

"Not surprisingly, given where the team is drafting, Holmes said he has not received all calls about the No. 28 pick."

Hi Justin, what do you mean by "all calls"?

Rewatching the press conference and it hit me, Holmes is not a draftnik and that might be why he’s so good at his job. He doesn’t see the draft like draftniks, he doesn’t understand it on that level. Like Justin said he doesn’t get that it’s become a booming cottage industry. He sees the draft like the Raul Julia line from Street Fighter “For you, the day M. Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday,"😂

Might be the wrong time to ask that question. You are asking him to get into how he might draft when we know a lot of GMs around the league will watch this. This subject might be better to approach after the draft.

BTW, Justin was the only writer that Holmes called out his name. The Lions either love him or hate but we are sure they know who he is.

Justin has been around the block with the Lions a few times. It would be natural to address him by name on occasion, IMO.

A lot of people are already taking the popcorn comments out of context to imply Holmes was hinting that the Lions would be going crazy.

It's too bad that Holmes didn't understand the context of your question. I would've been really interested in his answer. Definitely worth a revisit.

I think he probably did understand. He simply answered it the way he wanted.

It's an interesting comment about Barnes, considering he was a star linebacker in the Big Ten. Played 43 games for Purdue, three-year starter. He wouldn't seem to be in the same category as Martin (late bloomer who finished up at a mid-major) or Manu (Canadian USports ball). Not sure what it means; it just jumped out at me.

IIRC, Barnes played a substantial number of snaps at edge at Purdue.

This feels like one of the most pivotal drafts in Lions history.
