Whether the Lions stay patient or trade up, 25 prospects to consider on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft
Allen Park — The Detroit Lions entered the 2025 NFL Draft with no pressing needs. That’s not to say there wasn’t room to upgrade roster spots or longer-term deficiencies, but holding the No. 28 pick, the team wasn't reasonably expected to find a Day 1 starter at any position.
They ultimately selected Ohio State defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, a player who immediately bolsters the rotation with starter Alim McNeill recovering from a torn ACL, plus addresses a 2026 concern at the position with Levi Onwuzurike, DJ Reader and Roy Lopez all playing on contracts that expire after the upcoming season.
The Lions still have several bigger-picture areas to address, including defensive end, wide receiver, guard and linebacker. They’ll resume that process Friday evening, the second day of the draft, where they hold the No. 60 pick in the second round and No. 102 in the third.
