Tub Time: Lions' Skipper talks enforcer mentality, baseball background and aftermath of Dallas reporting fiasco
Allen Park — A day later and I’m mildly concerned about my feet.
Wednesday morning, I had the opportunity to join Detroit Lions offensive tackle Dan Skipper for his daily, post-practice ice bath. It’s admittedly not the most original idea — comedian Kevin Hart has been running a series of ice bath Q&A’s for years — but it was an early opportunity for me to explore an idea that better fits into this new venture and wouldn’t have made as much sense in my previous role reporting for the newspaper.
In hindsight, 16 minutes was probably too long to spend submerged in ice water for a cold tub virgin. Oh well, live and learn.
The interview was designed to be fun. We discussed Skipper’s reputation for always being in the thick of camp fights, took a playful look back at his baseball background and how those skills would hold up present day, before closing on a more introspective note about how he processed the reporting as eligible fiasco from Dallas last year and what's changed for him since being elevated to a Hall of Fame member of Lions lore.
Shout out to cornerback Khalil Dorsey for his supporting actor role in tub No. 3.
Still being in the afterglow of the Detroit Football Network’s launch a little more than a week ago, I’m keeping this one free for everyone. You all deserves an equal opportunity to laugh with and at me.
It's like your own version of Hot Ones, but the polar opposite
Ha! Very well done! Did I hear Campbell make a wisecrack about a 1/3 of the way in? Also - glad to hear the Jared Goff chants are alive and well!!!!
