A backup QB that is actually being developed instead of just thrown in with his current skillset. Depth that matters. Taking flyers on players so athletically gifted that they can afford to have them sit to develop the mental. What team is this? I've followed since the kung-fu kick and I've had optimism before, but this is bordering on being confident in the long-term plan, not just current iteration.
I'd say I saw improved max distance, but consistency remained shaky from 55 yards and beyond, especially when contrasted against the rookie Turner. I had plans to talk to Badgley about it, but it was a day where he had a particularly bad practice, so the timing seemed poor for a quality conversation.
I wonder if Netane Muti could push for one of the reserve IOL spots. I’ve heard his name come up in some other preseason coverage.
I’m sure there’s little to actually evaluate OL reserve pecking order prior to the pads coming on but curious if anything in preseason so far would indicate he’s “someone to watch”.
Really liked Muti coming out of college, but durability has always held him back, both in college and the pros. I think he'll find it difficult to jump the other options, but injuries happen, so you never discount a path opening up.
I love for the Lions that the training camp battles are for backups. So glad to see the days where practically the entire roster was up for grabs are gone. I'm intrigued by the DL depth, specifically Levi.
I've been saying it all offseason, it's surreal the depth Holmes has built. There are a couple starting spots on defense up for grabs, but the completeness of this roster is unbelievable and unlike anything I've seen in my 12 years covering the team.
Holmes may turn out to be the best GM in Detroit history. Not just Lions but of all four teams in Detroit. We'll see how he handles the next decade before installing him as our local deity. But what a start!
It's the depth that creates competition that keeps everyone on their toes. It's like every great place I've worked. If you have a great management team that can create a positive environment amazing things can and do happen!
Congratulations Justin on your new entrepreneurial venture! Looking forward to your content!

Sometime midway through training camp can you update us as to Michael Badgley’s range? It seemed in OTAs maybe his range improved.
