Man the NFL needs to wake up and increase the roster sizes of these teams. The game is evolving, most players are too strong for their tendons to whether the force, and injuries will never stop. 53 should be 65 and they should let teams have more than 46 guys on GameDay as well.

Great article. Showing the reality of joining a team mid camp and having to pick things up on the fly was eye opening for me. It really let's you know how hard it is make a team from the outside.

It also show the importance of drafting well and keeping your own players (you know what you have).

We talk about player consistency but keeping the same coaching staff is a major reason the Lions are contenders withbyear.

I just signed up to the paid version of your blog, and I'm glad that I did!!

Sorry that you left the News, but happy that you're still covering the Detroit Lions!!

Question: Do you think that the team needs to get another kicker? I'm terrified at our kicking situation as it stands right now. Jake Bates is scary to me right now, and either he needs to fix what's wrong with his results, or the team is going to have to move on in another direction -- get a new kicker.

Or the flip side... keep a crap kicker and simply go 2 TE ,2 RB offense for four downs....

2 point conversions and ride or die.

A roster is gonna need to churn when you take fliers on injured, albeit talented, aged players. Holmes penchant for injury history players forces diversity to hide unavailability.
