Following the long-term loss of John Cominsky to a knee injury, the Lions feel good about the roster's depth to backfill his role, particularly with Onwuzurike healthy and surging entering his fourth season.
Love it, thanks for not trying to squeeze water from a stone when the news on the day is a little light. It's why I pay for the subscription, when I click on a story I know it will be worth reading.
Justin asked the best question of the day. The answer from Campbell was exactly what I expected -- they've been quite consistent in wanting players who aren't one-trick ponies. It's really hard to disguise what your defense is going to do when everyone knows that this guy or that guy can only do one thing.
this article and judgement are why Justin, you are worth every penny of the premium subscription - don't force a long article, ask insightful questions and write what the team gives you (like QB checking down from time to time). Please let us know when you know if Muti goes on IR or stays part of 90 and follows same path as the Commish as a candidate to come back later in the year.
Before last season I got to read the article Levi wrote about his surgery and journey back. EVERYONE, but Levi, Campbell, and Holmes wrote him off. My favorite play from last year was Levi getting that sack in the last game. In a season full of great plays it's funny that the sack is the one that sticks out for me.
Really excited about all the player's glowing talk of Coach Williams. If he can squeeze a better performance from our vets and help Wingo and Martin develop faster, that would be huge for the Lions defense.
Also happy to hear that Levi is all about the work right now. Seems like he is hyper focused and wants to stay in that zone!
I dig Levi skipping press and focusing. This is year four for him so he knows how much camp he's missed due to injuries so he recognizes the importance of the reps. Props.
The Betts and Houston comparison is a good one and great question. As soon as I heard Campbell talk, I wanted to know what your question asked. I think fans forget the mental difference from strictly rushing to adding in coverage. It also sounds like TWill is making it easier on the DL so learning a new position in your first year while learning everything the DL is learning is going to be an adjustment.
How has Houston looked? Is he still learning the coverage aspect or did they dial him back some as well? He broke his ankle playing special teams so we know that's how became someone going to the game. Just curious about progress in the "other" tasks.
Houston has flashed, but lacked the consistency we all know the coaching staff covets. I think he makes the roster, because few move like he does when rushing the passer, but I understand Campbell wanting more versatility to ensure game day value. The Barnes relationship should help both players, but I'd bet Houston gets more out of it.
I'm sure there was consensus, on the new D-line coach "T-Williams", but I'd like to know who was the first to bring him up?
This is brilliant "Editor’s note (Note: I’m the editor): "
Bummer to have players go down. Sure is awesome to have the depth to absorb it though. Holmes & Friends have made such a difference.

That checkdown comparison *chefs kiss*

It's because there was a symbolism to it, a tangible result that suggested he was crossing the hump.
