The Lions defensive line impressed in the opener and should be getting DJ Reader back this week. The front is hoping to set a tone for the entire unit with their physicality.
I think Matt Dery reported (!) that he spoke with the groundskeeper, who said they used too much rubber pellets this time around. Given players don't all wear the same brand or style of cleats, I think that explains the footing issues we had. (I'd love for a follow-up on that reporting btw.)
That is incorrect, it was not the groundskeeper. It was pure speculation from an unnamed source who said there was too much water sprayed on the field. Go back and listen again.
Even though it's only game one, I see no major concerns. Your two best receivers are limited and we still beat a good team. The winning drive was awesome and there were no major injuries.
Maybe this is for a mailbag, but I am curious — despite what Dan Campbell said — if you think Amon-Ra’s and LaPorta’s limited production was in fact the result of smart game planning that other teams might duplicate. And how might Ben Johnson overcome it?
The Rams stacked the middle of the field and dared us to beat them outside. Jamo answered, but I think this also highlights the importance of having that X receiver who can work the corners.
Teams won't continue to leave Jamo in single coverage and we'll take advantage of any imbalance, which happened to be LA underestimating Jamo week one but could be ARSB/LaPorta in another game.
You will probably see a teeter totter effect of teams taking away the over which limits Jameson and Raymond… Then they’ll try to stop the deep stuff and Laporta and Saint Brown will eat them alive
Good for the OL getting a nice feature. People finally recognizing the grinders.

Nice clip on the OL. Thanks for sharing that.
