Just looking ahead and wondering...he is in his third year of a four year deal (I am assuming) so that means he will be a free agent after the 2025-26 season. What do the Lions do? Trade him now along with a few draft picks for a legit DL edge rusher or risk more infractions? Is he playing well enough to merit a huge contract next year? Sure, he has become an important part of the offensive scheme but at what price?
He was a first round pick, so the Lions can exercise a fifth year option. So his contract runs at least this year and two more, so there’s zero rush for an extension. After that, there’s transition and franchise tags available as well. Trading him now is not even a remote possibility given the distinct skill set he brings the offense. He’s just immature, not a real professional yet, and makes dumb choices. That may never change, and if it doesn’t, it impacts his career. Is what it is.
Sounds like this was a pretty minor infraction and he probably got caught on a technicality. It sucks that he's going to be out for a few weeks but next man up. Patrick and Kalif stock up.
There's little question that Jamo is an outlier when it comes to (probably) inadvertent infraction of league rules. When Suh was the dirtiest player in the league, I found all sorts of reasons to defend him ... while was on my team.
Perhaps my response to Williams reflects the Suh effect. But I don't think so. Suh was nasty and didn't care. Williams is just a naif.
I like him, too. A lot. However, ignorance of not an excuse. He needs to grow up. He has a chance to do a lot of good, both on and off the field. These lapses in judgement don't help him.
I agree it’s possible he has more growing up to do. But it’s also possible he’s just stupid, and growing up doesn’t necessarily fix that. As a 66 year old self-avowed stupid person I know from whence I speak. I mean, I like that kid, but I wouldn’t seek him out for legal advice or financial planning. Full disclosure, I wouldn’t come to me either.
