Allen Park — Here are some notes and observations from Sunday’s Detroit Lions practice, the 12th of training camp.
● Let’s start with participation. The Lions were down quite a few players for the session, more than 16% of the 91-man roster, when you factor in defensive tackle DJ Reader (quad) and rookie guard Christian Mahogany (illness), who remain on injured lists.
Also not practicing for the Lions were quarterback Hendon Hooker (concussion), wide receivers Daurice Fountain and Antoine Green (concussion), linebackers Malcolm Rodriguez, James Houston (knee) and Malik Jefferson, defensive linemen Alim McNeill, David Bada and Levi Onwuzurike (knee), offensive linemen Taylor Decker and Kevin Zeitler and tight end Sam LaPorta (hamstring).
Bada, an international pathway player, is a roster exemption, which is why the Lions can carry 91 players, opposed to the traditional 90. He suffered an Achilles injury in the preseason opener.
