Lions camp observations: Goff shows impressive anticipation and touch; Vildor takes advantage of depleted secondary
Allen Park — Here are some observations from Wednesday’s training camp practice, the 14th of the Detroit Lions’ 2024 offseason.
● A quick participation report to kick things off. As noted in today’s “Pressers and Scrums,” quarterback Hendon Hooker returned to action after clearing concussion protocol. Also back after missing time earlier in the week were defensive tackle Alim McNeill, defensive end Josh Paschal and linebacker Malik Jefferson.
Not practicing on Wednesday were cornerbacks Carlton Davis III (hamstring), Terrion Arnold (pec) and Ennis Rakestraw (ankle), guard Kevin Zeitler, tight end Sam LaPorta (hamstring), safety Brain Branch, edge rusher James Houston (knee), linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and running backs Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) and Jermar Jefferson.
● The Lions opened up with a 9-on-7 segment. If you’re not familiar with the drill, the defense operates with the two-man advantage, working on their run fits. It’s often one of the most physical segments of any practice. At the University of Michigan, they renamed it the “Beat Ohio drill” because of the tone it sets.
