Allen Park — Here are some notes and observations from Tuesday’s Detroit Lions’ training camp practice.
● The Lions were back in pads for the second consecutive day, and with that increased physicality, the chances of injury naturally increases. The team didn’t escape the day without losing a player as defensive end John Cominsky went down with a right knee concern, which required him to be carted back to the locker room for evaluation.
Obviously, there’s no reason to speculate on the extent in the immediate aftermath. Several years ago, Eric Ebron suffered a leg injury and it was quickly reported by national media he had torn his Achilles. It turned out to be a sprained ankle that only sidelined him a few weeks. Last year, it was C.J. Gardner-Johnson who looked like he might have suffered a season-ender in camp, only to return before the start of the season.
Hopefully, it’s just a scare for Cominsky and nothing serious. You can bet coach Dan Campbell will provide an update Wednesday morning.
● Derrick Barnes talked last week about how the upcoming season was personal for him. That’s showing up, not just in the intensity of his performances, but in his playmaking.
