QB Jake Fromm should have been retained by the Lions. He threw great passes, looked strong, and mobile in the pocket, and only being a Lion for about 2 weeks , he knew the playbook as good as Sudfield.
I suspect the braintrust kept guys they'd prefer on the PS (I.e., Houston) because of concern they might get claimed. With the exception of CJ Moore, I'm not sure who else might have been subject to a claim.
With that said, I'd be surprised if a few didn't get some PT somewhere this season.
Seems like the Lions might be looking for another wide out. Patrick could be decent but he hasn't played in the regular season for two years. However, as much as we love Jamo, he really hasn't proven he can be an every game difference maker. Isaiah W is also an unknown. I wonder if Gibbs or Vaki could see some time as regular receivers? Don't see the point in grabbing another LB since only two play in their D scheme.
Dez Fitzpatrick flashed against the Lions vs Pittsburgh. 6'2" 208 Could be worth a look.
Maybe Lions should sign Aiyuk. Would give Lions two proven top WRs. However, Aiyuk probably is not a MCDC guy and he would need to get fewer dollars than Amon. I think Aiyuk is looking for BIG dollars.
Yes. Practice squad is at will employment, essentially. Players pick where they want to play. If they are claimed off waivers, it's from 53-man to 53-man roster. Or, in this case, 90-man to 53-man roster. Lions could cut Nowaske tomorrow and try to sign him to their practice squad, if he goes unclaimed and he's agreeable. Sometimes, that happens, too.
Correct, players with less than 4 years experience go to waivers, players with 4 or more years of experience get released/cut. Waiver players can be claimed by another team, released players can go talk to whoever they want immediately.
People get hyped up that they're going to lose this player or that player via waivers, but in the end, only about 3-4% of all players waived on cut day get claimed. It rarely means anything, other than fans overvalue their own players because they're not seeing the forest through the trees.

Aiyuk would cost $25-30 mil/year at least.
Aiyuk is not a FA so you can't sign him and the 49ers don't want to trade him. He also wants more than 30M per season which is why he is holding out.
When a team claims a PS guy do they have to put on 53 man roster?

Yes
Yes, any claimed player must go on the 53.
So Patrick has to be on the 53?
Don’t think so. Because of his years accrued Patrick wasn’t waived, he was released. I think that’s how it works

Yeah, I think we all have this one in the pool of them claiming a linebacker! 😄
My thoughts exactly
Is it telling that no one from the Lions got claimed??
