The Lions went light at receiver on its initial 53-man roster, carrying just four, but are compensating through the construction of the team’s 16-man practice squad.
The sooner we admit we made a mistake with DPJ, we all wanted it to work and on paper it made sense, but it didn’t , and it’s time to move on and not with older probably worse journeyman. Why has this incredible team and leadership choosen to be blind about out WR situation and don’t nothing to bring in more talent.
I don't think they're blind. I think it's a combination of WR-X not being the highest priority, and a lack of affordable talent available. This past off-season, the focus was on improving the defense. Our resources went to the CB room and the trenches. And then the way the draft fell, there wasn't the right talent there for our picks. I think they see WRs as over-valued, especially for an offense that already has so many weapons -- and they expect they guy to work hard, block all the time, run everything precisely, and not get a whole lot of touches. It's not exactly the job offer that appeals to young divas.
I do not know all the ins and outs of how practice squad players being brought up and then being put back on there. I know there’s only so many times each player can be done like that, but with four receivers of that kind of background, I can almost see them rotating them in and out for the 5th WR.
Would like to see some more thoughts on why Nate Sudfeld wasn’t brought back to the practice squad I’ve not seen yet, doesn’t mean it’s not there, that he got snapped up by somebody else
If Robinson is not really getting on long-term anywhere, but bouncing around quite a bit since his big days, then why would Brad Holmes think that he’s going to be helpful to our team? Was this a “maturity in the receiver room“ me mentoring addition? Or is this the Lions just wanting to get a good look at his potential?
So we're looking at three vet WRs to battle it out over the next few weeks... like the competition/dynamic they've created there. Something tells me DPJ won't be the one who comes out on top.
Yeah... I mean I think DPJ looked completely washed in the preseason, but the Lions wouldn't have brought him back onto the PS if they didn't think there might still be a glimmer of a spark there. We'll see.

Are they going to elevate a different WR3 each game?
The depth on this practice squad is WILD

You get three temporary elevations per player. Each elevation gives them a vet minimum game check which counts against the cap as such.
So, about six players of different positions can be brought up as a fine-tuning for the offense/defense against whatever they’re going to be facing.
Oh, I’m sure that he’s done this in the past but they didn’t have that kind of depth like they got now.

Brad Holmes has drafted 29 players. 25 are on the 53, 2 are on the practice squad, and 2 have been cut. Not bad.
I remember that Robinson was wanted by many fans back than when he was part of Bears. We’ll see what he can contribute.

Depends on how fast the other WRs get up to speed.

Agree. He didn't flash in the preseason. But for now he knows the offense better than Patrick or Robinson for now.
