With Hendon Hooker in concussion protocol, the Lions made the move to add another QB to the roster ahead of this weekend's preseason game against Kansas City.
Kind of hard to understand the backup QB situation. There are a dozen Sudfield/Frommes out there, why not sign someone who has actually had some success in the NFL? Detroit should of signed Mason Rudolph when he was available.
If they put him on Injured Reserve now, he can't play for the rest of the year. By waiving him with a settlement, he could come back later in the year.
This points to Hooker being plan A and B for the backup QB position this season.

Yes, and building on this comment, what is the purpose of waive/injuring a player? Is it to save cap space if another team does pick him up?
