It's a date: Detroit Lions will host Washington Commanders in Divisional round next Saturday
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell got his wish as his team learned its opponent for next week’s Divisional round before the weekend came to a close.
The Lions will host the Washington Commanders next Saturday after they toppled the NFC South champion Buccaneers in Tampa Sunday night.
Led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, the presumptive Offensive Rookie of the Year, the Commanders emerged victorious in a back-and-forth battle thanks to a game-winning field goal off the right upright as time expired. With the win, the Commanders have advanced beyond the Wild Card round for the first time since the 2005 season.
Daniels, the No. 2 pick out of LSU in last April’s draft, built on his strong regular season performance where he completed 69.0% of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The dynamic dual-threat added another 891 yards and six scores on the ground.
Against the Buccaneers, Daniels was similarly stellar, throwing for 268 yards and two touchdowns, while pacing the Commanders with 36 rushing yards.
Coming off a bye, the Lions will host the Commanders at Ford Field next Saturday at 8 p.m. (FOX). The NFC's No. 2 seed, Philadelphia, will await the winner of Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings after topping Green Bay, 22-10, on Sunday. The Rams and Vikings will meet in Phoenix as ongoing wildfires devastate southern California with the winner traveling to Philadelphia for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
The AFC side of the bracket was confirmed earlier in the day on Sunday, after the Buffalo Bills thrashed the Denver Broncos, 31-7.
That sets up a clash between the Bills and Baltimore Ravens, featuring the top two candidates for this year’s MVP award, quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. Those teams will play Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
The AFC’s other matchup will see the defending champion Chiefs welcome the Houston Texans to Kansas City. The Chiefs and Texans will open the Divisional round with a 4:30 matchup on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium.
Interestingly, the final four teams from the AFC are the same four as a year ago.
Daniels may burn the Lions like Fields always has but I doubt the Redskin D can stop our offense.
Let's goooooo!
