The Lions have considered what Jonah Jackson can reveal about their scheme now that he's with the Rams, and they've made some minor tweaks to their play calls, but aren't stressing out about the potential impact.
I hope Reader does not play week one. It’s clear: he’s a vet, knows his body and obviously wants to play. And the staff - and Campbell specifically - probably want to reward his hard work to get himself ready. That type of gesture builds trust. But man, it FEELS rushed. I get “feel” isn’t a real thing, and the medical staff wouldn’t clear him unless he was able to play. But I personally would like to see him in week two or three, as hopefully it’s a long season with lots of snaps to play down the line.
Here's something I've been wanting an in-depth piece on someday if you ever get time: What is life like on the Practice Squad. I know the basics that they help prepare the starters for the upcoming opponent, but I guess how do they also use this time to develop players (like Manu). Is it just giving them more reps? Does the practice squad/scout team try to mirror blocking techniques and personnel of the week's opponent? As far as how that helps players develop, does that help them to practice like the opponent and learn that way as opposed to just how the Lions do it?
Dan talking about Gibbs and others getting up to your top speed in practice was very insightful. Never thought about it that way but makes alot of sense.
I never imagined Reader would have a chance at playing week one. Even if it’s only a handful of plays I’m really looking forward to seeing him and Alim next to each other. I still have my doubts but hopefully Reader is active Sunday night.
Pretty cool that Dan is both a successful coach and very candid in his interviews. It would be easy to go the route of Bill over in New England, answer every question with 3 words or less and try to be professional to the point of boredom. I like that you can kind of get a read for what he's thinking, and it never feels like he's holding something back to save face. Just a breathe of fresh air after... you know... the last one.
Loved your question about CD and and Terrion traveling or locking down 1 side of the field. I was very curious about how the Lions were going to play that myself.

Campbell seems to have a bit of Alex Karras in him, even to the point of ghosting Mongo in that Cowboys spot.

Here’s the Campbell commercial from his Cowboys days. https://youtu.be/I7VJTShs05Q?si=ucXtw5fFLXBKh6lf
I’m glad that he has graduated to speaking parts. You could say his acting skills have [makes Dan Campbell constant improvement hand gesture].
Good work, Zach!
What a great bit for Campbell! Love it!
EXCELLENT WORK!!!
Pretty good commercial too. 🤠
Should we check the knees of the horse?
Wow you found this in record time! Kudos to you Zach.
Haha Thanks! Though I’m not sure being this extremely online is something for me to actually be proud of.
YES!
If Substack can do custom emojis like discord we're going to need a line of Dan Campbell's hand gestures.
