Arlington, Texas — With the Detroit Lions cruising early in the second half against the Dallas Cowboys, Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious leg injury while sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Coming off the left side of the defensive formation, Hutchinson pulled up as he wrapped up the QB before Prescott tumbled backward onto the fallen defender.
Replay shows that Hutchinson’s left leg swung around and snapped as it connected with teammate defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who was rushing Prescott from the opposite direction.
Hutchinson stayed down for several minutes while an air cast was placed over his leg. Detroit’s bench emptied as teammates showed concern as the star edge rusher was carted off the field.
Hutchinson, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft, came into the day leading the league by a wide margin in quarterback pressures. The sack of Prescott made it 7.5 on the young season, putting him pace to easily set a new career-high.
The likely season-ending injury is a massive blow to the Lions, who already lost defensive end Marcus Davenport to a season-ending injury last month.
Pro Football Doc has a pretty good hit rate on these things. Hutch’s season is over. No playoff return. He said it’s likely 100% recovery for 2025. It is not an Alex Smith level injury.
This is hopeful news in spite of him being hurt at all. Hope it is not worse; and I hear he’s going right into surgery staying in Dallas.
